Just stumbled out of Dong-A's new bar...

There's a fine gentleman by the name of Dong-A who essentially has a monopoly in the 'foreigner bar' real estate, and he's recently opened a new establishment two floors below the well-frequented Crossroads. It's aiming to be a sports bar, which are actually an endangered species in Pusan; I can count on one hand bars I know of that even bother marketing their sports coverage with any regularity, so it's probably a solid business move on Dong-A's part if he runs it correctly (and there's little reason to believe he wouldn't, given his domination over the foreigner market).

So I decided to stop by there about an hour ago, not really expecting a whole lot since it doesn't officially open for another couple of weeks. Now I'm a strong believer in the idea that programming the big screen (when sports aren't available) at a local bar can be a big influence on the number and consistency of people attending your bar; you've got a home theater and a crowd of people who will only periodically pay attention to what's on the screen, and if you show me 'Deathrace 2000', 'Crippled Masters', or 'Born to Fight', I promise you I will stay for an additional three beers, at least. Now if there are movies that will keep me there, there are, of course, ones that will make me leave... which brings me to my point.

I haven't watched it the whole way through, so maybe I shouldn't pass judgment, but could you go more wrong than to have this playing across your bar's televisions on a Saturday night? I guess you could argue--as a guy playing pool did tonight--that it shows off your audio system, but is there anything else you could say? At least in 'United 93' I didn't need to look at Ghost Rider's ugly mug.
